Using ChatGPT as a conversational tool for Catalan
!
This research is being conducted by Mireia Toda Cosi at the University of Maryland, College Park. You are being invited to participate because you are a learner of Catalan at approximately the B1 level. Our goal is to see how helpful ChatGPT can be as a conversational partner with learners of Catalan.
Procedures:
You will first complete a screening questionnaire to check your eligibility (<2 min). If you qualify, the survey will move forward to a few questions about your language learning journey, demographics, and attitudes towards Artificial Intelligence (10 min). After that, you will be asked to provide your email and schedule a session with me, which will take place over Zoom and last no more than one hour.
Potential Risks and Discomforts:
There are no known risks to completing this survey besides a the possibility of a breach of confidentiality. Any potential loss of confidentiality will be minimized by storing the survey responses in Qualtrics until downloaded to my Drive. Before uploading the answers to Drive, the data will be split into a document with personally identifiable information and your personal information (email and name) will be swapped for a participant ID.
Potential Benefits
There are no direct benefits from participating in this survey, but the results will help us gather a representative set of Catalan learners.
