What is the data ethics tool?

The PERVADE Data Ethics Decision Support Tool was created by the PERVADE research team as a product of a long-term project focused on empirical questions in data ethics. This tool is designed to walk you through those many factors, and to refer you to resources to help you make informed decisions about the many complex factors that shape data research ethics.


Who is it for?

The PERVADE Data Ethics Decision Support Tool is designed for academic data science researchers, which might include researchers doing things like:
  • Digital health and digital mental health
  • Sensing research
  • Social media research
  • Text mining & NLP
  • ML/AI development

What are the tool's Goals?

Tool Instructions


As you move through the quiz you will be given feedback for your answer for each question. The per-question feedback should look like this:

When you click a link in the per-question feedback it will open a new tab so you can keep your quiz progress!

At the end of the survey you can choose to get an email with your project's data ethics diagnostic score and further recommendations. You will also receive a response report from your personal quiz where you can access all of your per-question feedback.
