Mobile Application Developer Survey Purpose of the Study
This research is being conducted by Katie Shilton at the University of Maryland, College Park. We are inviting you to participate in this research project because you are a software developer working on mobile applications. The purpose of this research is to better understand your beliefs and practices.
Procedures
The procedures involve a survey, which we expect to take less than 30 minutes, and an optional questionnaire asking for your contact information so we can send you any prizes you’ve earned. Your contact information will be stored separately from your survey responses and will not be connected through identification numbers or links.
The survey will include questions about your beliefs and experiences working as a mobile developer. Examples of questions include:
* Questions about the types of work you do
* Questions about your attitudes toward privacy in your work
* Questions about your attitudes toward privacy practices.
Risks
There are no obvious physical, legal or economic risks associated with participating in this study. You do not have to answer any questions you do not wish to answer. Your participation is voluntary and you are free to discontinue your participation at any time.
Benefits
There are no direct benefits from participating in this research. However, we hope it will contribute to the understanding and support of software developers by their employers, clients, and policy makers.
Confidentiality
Your privacy will be protected to the maximum extent allowable by law. No personally identifiable information will be reported in any research product. Moreover, only trained research staff will have access to your responses. Within these restrictions, results of this study will be made available to you upon request. Your information may be shared with representatives of the University of Maryland, College Park or governmental authorities if you or someone else is in danger or if we are required to do so by law.
Any potential loss of confidentiality will be minimized by storing data in a password-protected file. Contact information, if you choose to provide it, will be stored separately from your survey responses and will not be connected through an identification key or other means.
Compensation
If you wish, you will be entered into a lottery to win one 10 $50 Amazon gift certificates. Winners will be contacted a week after the survey closes. You will be responsible for any taxes assessed on the compensation.
Right to Withdraw and Questions
Your participation in this research is completely voluntary. You may choose not to take part at all. If you decide to participate in this research, you may stop participating at any time. If you decide not to participate in this study or if you stop participating at any time, you will not be penalized or lose any benefits to which you otherwise qualify.
